College

College.

The very word stirs two coexisting sentiments inside me.

The prospect excites me: to go out into the world to accomplish great and adventurous feats, to know a new life away from everything I've ever known...

And this leads directly into my other view, a seemingly contradictory state of inward compulsion, diametrically opposed to the aforementioned ideology. A myriad of fears overwhelm me concerning many aspects of college: people, finances, family withdrawal, rigorous acadamia; the list goes on.

Amid the maelstrom of fears and excitement, there is a constant in my function of emotion: my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness.

For my input, I have two comments:

First, my 4 years at college were the best years of my life. I cannot express how total freedom (and total responsibility) allowed me to branch out socially and begin building my life according to my own plan.

Next, it was essential that I went to a college away from home. In my case, it was in the country, far away from New York City. That really helped, because I have always loved the country. Living there full time was a nice break.

I strongly suggest you consider going to a college as far away from everything you know, and keeping an open mind to the things you find there. It will change you in many ways, and that is a good thing!

The bottom line will make you or break you. If your bottom line is "my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness," then no matter where you go or how far from home, YOU CAN'T LOSE!

The foundation of your hope is everything. If the foundation is trustworthy, you are secure.

Remember, we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. -Rom 5:3-5

P.S. Whenever you're given advice examine the source. It will keep you from following fools into their folly.
